It has been a long time since I've blogged about my cakes, so now its time to play catch up. Now that I have time on my hands let me quickly show you a preview of what I have been up to this year.

Large Cake Pop Order

I recently got an order for 220 cake pops for a company to give to their top customers and was honored when they ordered the cake pops from me.
Picture
Flavors from left to right were strawberry, white almond, chocolate and red velvet.
Picture
This is how the boxes were made up.

Me with the finished order. :)

New item added to the menu! :)

Picture

I recently added a new item to my cakeball menu. I introduce to you the Alcoholic Cake Ball. A fun adult twist to your average cakeball. These cakeballs have a little side shooter, you can either shoot and eat or eat and shoot the options is totally up to you.

Monster High Cake

Picture

I got a request for a Monster High Cake which like usual (since I don't have kids nor am I familiar with shows) I had to look up.

This cake was super fun to work on. I espically loved the skull on top.

Super Woman Cake

Sometime in November I did a Super Woman cake for a beautiful little girl.

Lalaloopsy who ???

Picture

In October I had to do a lalaloopsy cake and I agreed to do this cake without even knowing what a lalaloopsy was. Glad to find out it was a show of rag dolls that came to life. After getting some inspirations from a couple of dolls I came up with this cake.

Love how colorful this cake is.

Baltimore Orioles

This was a tough cake to make. Everyone knows I am a DIE HARD RANGER FAN so it had to be someone pretty special to get me to make this cake (lol). This was for my sister's boyfriend's birthday. I am not going to lie it hurt more because my Rangers lost to them in the wild card game.
Picture
Ball was chocolate cake and bat was made out of rice crispies then covered in fondant. Logos are edible images.

Happy 44th Birthday to the Dallas Fire and Rescue House

I was real honored to do this cake for the 44th birthday of the Dallas Fire and Rescue House #26. I had to go above and beyond of what was done last year for them so instead of doing your typical fire engine or burning building I figured I'd capture the helmet and axe they carry.
Picture
I wanted to really dirty up the helmet to show how hard they work for us.
Picture
Here is their actual hemet I based the cake off of.

A personal 'Thank You' to all you paramedics and fire fighters out there.  :)

Noah's Ark

This was a crazy last minuet request and by last minuet I meant she only gave me about 2 days to pull this one off. Her son Noah was turning 1 and she wanted to go big with the cake. This was a huge cake about 2 feet or so tall an about 1.5 feet wide and gosh knows how many pounds. Loved the outcome though. I was uncertain on how it was going to come out but this has to be one of my favorite 3D cakes.
The whales with the party hats have to by my favorite ones.

Icing Smiles Cake

I finally got called into action!!! I needed to make a special little boy who loves Elmo his dream Sesame Street Cake. This is what I ended up making him.
Picture
Thank you Lauren Kitchens for your help with the Elmo!

I love cookies and milk

Now were in July and the cake was for my sister. We love cookies and milk if we could we would have it for breakfast and dinner ever night but sadly we don't. But to honor the love we have for them I did this cake for her. I love love love this cake. :)
Picture
The milk carton was the cake.

Happy Birthday Missy! I love you!

Bridal Shower 'Cake' Pops

Picture

A college friend requested wedding cakepops for thank you gifts for a bridal shower she was throwing. These were a lot harder and more time consuming then I would of ever imagined but they did come out beautifully!

Picture

Happy Birthday Mommy!

Being a cake decorator I had to go above and beyond for my mom's cake and here is what I ended up doing.
Picture
This cake was for her work. All buttercream 3 layers tall. Cake flavor was vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. Wish I would of taken a picture of how the inside looked once it was cut.
Picture
And this beautiful little number was for her party we had here at home.
Box top and gems are not edible.

Magazine cake

This cake was hard, well not the actual cake but the edible images. The birthday boy loves Sports Illustrated but I wanted to custom the covers for the cake and I am not very good at photoshop so I can to call in my other half. He made the magazine covers for me and customized for the birthday boy.
Picture
Cake is all buttercream and edible images.

Sponge Bob & Guitar cake

Finally got to do a Sponge Bob cake.
Picture
Picture
Guitar cake done for my cousin. I got to pick what ever cake I wanted to make for him and since he plays the guitar what better cake to make then a guitar one? :)

Baby shower cakes

Here are a few baby shower cakes I did this year.

Cupcakes

Here are a few cupcakes I made through out this year.

Skylanders Portal of Power Cake

Have you heard of the new game Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure?

It's where characters are ‘brought to life’ in a adventure game where children can collect real-world toys and teleport them directly into the game using a mystical Portal of Power. And I got asked to make the Portal of Power into a cake for a boy celebrating his birthday.

I had no idea what that way and had to do my research and luckily I got to see and handle the actual portal of power.

Here is the game's  Portal of Power
Picture

Now, here is my take on the magical Portal of Power that brings these characters to life along with some delicious cupcakes.
Picture
Cake is double chocolate with buttercream filling.

Engagement Party!

12/12/2011

For those of you guys who don't know, I recently got engaged in late October and last weekend I had my engagement party!

He proposed by giving me a message in a bottle. With that being said I knew I wanted to incorporate that into my engagement party. So pictured below are the center pieces I made for the tables. These were based off of the message in a bottle he gave me. Each one had a different inspiring love letter in it.
Picture
I did my own invitations and without any thought ended up picking light blue and white. After Making my invitations I went to Party City to see what the heck I could find to go with my theme and my not-really-thought-out color scheme. I lucked out! I found this beautiful set which matched my colors perfectly and to top it off they were on sale!
Picture
Now that I had something to base the the party off of I went to the drawing board for my engagement cake. Yes, I did make my own cake. I had planned on doing something simple but after falling in love with my plates, I had to incorporate them some how.

Here is my engagement cake! 3 tiers of amazing vanilla cake with yummy raspberry filling. Ok, ok, 3 tiers is a lot of cake for a small engagement party of 60, so I cheated. The middle tier is a dummy. The stenciling on the cake was a first for me and was done 2 hours before the party started. I put it off until the end because I was intimidated by it and I knew if I messed up there would be no way of going back to fix it. Black on white is never forgiving!
Picture
Since I didn't make my cake fully 'cake,' I decided to do a mini dessert bar which was  something I had been wanting to do.

I had brownie pops (first time making those) with and with out nuts.
Picture
I had coconut balls (first time making those as well).
Picture
I had a mini cupcake tower. White chocolate cupcakes with white chocolate cream cheese frosting adorned with black glitter.
Picture
And my boyfriend . . . um I mean fiancé made tiramisu cups.
Picture
Low and behold my mini dessert bar. I was missing some elements but for my first time I think I did an okay job.
Picture
To tell the truth this was hectic enough and I can only imagine how planning the wedding will go. Well, I better get started early then because time management will be my friend.

Domestic Violence Awareness

10/6/2011

October isn't only Breast Cancer Awareness month but it is also Domestic Violence Awareness month which does seem to get overlooked. I am sure I have mentioned this many times but one more time won't hurt, my sister works as a children's counselor at the Family Place. I made Domestic Violence Awareness cupcakes just to make sure they knew they weren't being overlooked. Don't worry Breast Cancer Awareness your cupcake is coming up too! :)

These are chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting and fondant ribbon toppers. Enjoy!

Thanks to a wonderful tutorial I found online, I figured how to do cupcake cake pops. This was a cake pop bouquet paired with the cupcake rose bouquet just in case the birthday girl didn't want to share her beautiful cupcakes.

Rose Bouquet

9/13/2011

Picture
I finally learned how to do buttercream roses on cupcakes and wanted to do a rose bouquet with them. This was a bigger challenge then first anticipated anticipated. I filled the inside of the vase with rocks to make sure if it got top heavy it wouldn't tip over. I placed a round styrofoam inside my vase, this was going to hold my cupcakes. I started doweling my cupcakes to the styrofoam and they were way to heavy. The cupcakes started drooping and breaking off. I had to remove the cupcakes and adjust my styrofoam to make sure only half of it was sticking out of the vase. I placed the cupcakes back on the styrofoam and added green celophane in-between my cupcakes to cover the blank areas. This was not the sturdiest bouquet but it did hold. If I ever plan on doing this again I will assemble on site because the cupcakes were just to heavy.

Trial apple cinnamon cupcakes

9/13/2011

Since fall is around the corner (even though it doesn't quite feel like it right now) I decided to try some apple cinnamon cupcakes topped with a honey buttercream. I took these cupcakes to work and overall got good feedback. The cake was good and had a texture similar to that of carrot cake, but the honey buttercream was too sweet for me. Looks like I need to go back to the drawing board and give it another go.
