My center piece for my table. My candle might not smell but I can eat it. ^_^
I saw a cake like this last year I believe and wanted to try it out. I did have trouble doing such a tall cake but like always it came together in the end. This is double chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling (need my chocolate fix before the new year). I carved out a hole on the top of the cake to be able to fit a tea light. I showed you my cake toppers for the baby shower safari/jungle themed cake now for the whole picture. A close up of my toppers. Some cupcakes with cupcake toppers that went with the cake. And the baby shower wouldn't be complete with out baby shower themed cake pops.
Can you guess what gender the baby is going to be? Flavors for the cake pops were red velvet, vanilla almond and carrot. Yumm. Nurses are miracle workers and here at Sweets by Selina we thank each and every one of them for their hard work. Vanilla cake in the shape of a scrub top for a graduating nurse. All buttercream with fondant details. I especially love the ladybug heart. ^_^ Vanilla cake pop with a fondant red cross.
For those of you guys who don't know, I recently got engaged in late October and last weekend I had my engagement party! He proposed by giving me a message in a bottle. With that being said I knew I wanted to incorporate that into my engagement party. So pictured below are the center pieces I made for the tables. These were based off of the message in a bottle he gave me. Each one had a different inspiring love letter in it. I did my own invitations and without any thought ended up picking light blue and white. After Making my invitations I went to Party City to see what the heck I could find to go with my theme and my not-really-thought-out color scheme. I lucked out! I found this beautiful set which matched my colors perfectly and to top it off they were on sale! Now that I had something to base the the party off of I went to the drawing board for my engagement cake. Yes, I did make my own cake. I had planned on doing something simple but after falling in love with my plates, I had to incorporate them some how. Here is my engagement cake! 3 tiers of amazing vanilla cake with yummy raspberry filling. Ok, ok, 3 tiers is a lot of cake for a small engagement party of 60, so I cheated. The middle tier is a dummy. The stenciling on the cake was a first for me and was done 2 hours before the party started. I put it off until the end because I was intimidated by it and I knew if I messed up there would be no way of going back to fix it. Black on white is never forgiving! Since I didn't make my cake fully 'cake,' I decided to do a mini dessert bar which was something I had been wanting to do. I had brownie pops (first time making those) with and with out nuts. I had coconut balls (first time making those as well). I had a mini cupcake tower. White chocolate cupcakes with white chocolate cream cheese frosting adorned with black glitter. And my boyfriend . . . um I mean fiancé made tiramisu cups. Low and behold my mini dessert bar. I was missing some elements but for my first time I think I did an okay job. To tell the truth this was hectic enough and I can only imagine how planning the wedding will go. Well, I better get started early then because time management will be my friend.
I did a safari themed baby shower cake and this one gave me a hard time. When I started it, nothing seemed to dry quick enough and everything just seemed to be going wrong. In the end it looked a lot better than originally anticipated and I have got to say this is my best work yet. I love the fondant animals. ^_^ I can't take all the credit though, my sister helped with the elephant and lion toppers. Congratulations again Mary & Christian!
Here is a cake to thank the people who helped move this lovely couple to their new home. This was a vanilla cake with buttercream covered in fondant. The accessories and details were made out of fondant and gum paste. I did run into trouble with making the house. The one shown in the picture was my second house, because my first one ended up looking more like a dog house so I definately had to scrap that one and give it another go. This second one came out a lot better.
Happy Thanksgiving! What better way to celebrate the holidays then with a festive cake. This is a double chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting.
